Methods

This map uses Landsat 8 and 9 satellite imagery to identify where autumn vegetation change is most likely to occur. Seasonal differences in vegetation greenness were analyzed using ΔNDVI, a remote sensing technique that measures how plant reflectance changes through time. Areas with stronger declines in vegetation greenness often correspond to landscapes experiencing autumn senescence, including quaking aspen groves and riparian corridors. To better support recreation, phenological change was interpreted alongside public land ownership and trail networks, highlighting places where seasonal color and public access overlap.
